What do you consider to be most important as a key to aging well?
Balance--of physical, mental and spiritual powers, in accordance with the best the person knows in keeping those powers active. "Use it or lose it" should be a constant dictum.
How can a person keep from being lonely?
Each person has talents and desires. Working to develop them can be so absorbing that any feeling of loneliness is forgotten. Taking the initiative to get in touch with acquaintances and/or forming new friendships may open such activity that there is no time for feeling lonely.
Aren't you afraid to travel alone?
No. I plan my traveling well enough to know there is no real need to be afraid. Often I will join a group and become acquainted with fellow travelers. If I am really traveling alone, as when I used an Eurail pass for two weeks, going by train to several central European nations, I used common sense about what conditions I chose. If I feel fearful while still at home, I cancel the plans. Feeling fearful draws trouble to you, and so if I don't feel confident, I simply don't go.
How important is physical exercise to aging well?
I don't think it needs to be taken to extremes, but physical exercise is vital to good health, continuing through the years. Whatever the exercise program, even if it is just walking, it needs to be part of each day's activity. It is amazing how rapidly a person can weaken physically when exercise is not on a regular basis. I also feel that as a person grows older it is necessary to maintain proper posture, essential to avoiding back problems and looking your best.
